Local calls can be made from your villa by dialling the number directly, at a cost of 25 cents per call. Your phone has its own number which people may contact you directly on, from overseas or locally (Rarotonga’s area code is + 682). Calls to a mobile phone is 50 cents per call. For overseas collect / reverse charge calls (not possible to all countries), you can reach the Telecom Cook Islands operator on 015.

The cheapest way to make overseas calls from your villa phone is by using Telecom’s Kia Orana Calling Cards, available at the 6 to 11 shop on the main road 500 metres to the left in values of $10 and $20. For those with overseas calling cards, some access numbers are: British Telecom chargecard: Dial the BT operator on 09 441 to charge calls to your credit card or home phone.
New Zealand subscribers: Dial 0964 09682 for credit card, NZ Direct Calling Card or collect calls.United States: AT&T or Bell Cardholders: Dial the AT&T operator on 09 111.

You may send and receive faxes via our machine at the office. Our fax number is (+ 682) 21222. If you don’t want a phone in your villa just contact the office and it will be taken away! Fax costs (depending on which country it is sent) will be charged at what Telecom is charging us.

If you would like to send or check your emails or go surfing on the net, there is a green Internet Café about 70 metres from Sokala Villas towards the main road. They also offer a USB cable to connect data sticks or your labtop directly. You are on satelite then, operating with approx. 56 kbit/sec - it works slow but fine ...

The Cook Islands recently had an upgrade on their Satelite connection from 2Mbit/sec to 4 Mbit/sec ;-)
